CJ Powers is a communication specialist who has been a part of the film and television industry, Fortune 100 world, traveled to two dozen countries in the past ten years for both media and ministry purposes, and regularly inspires people to excel beyond what they thought was possible.
Raised in front of a motion picture camera, CJ developed a passion for directing. His films released internationally and television programs aired on CBS, PBS, ABC, the Family Channel, and various syndicated stations. The majority of his directing awards, including the Silver CINDY and Crystal Communicator of Excellence, were for family films. CJ received additional honors from the U.S. and International Film and Video Festival and the New York Film Festival. Powers Productions, Inc. was founded by CJ in 1985 to produce wholesome and moral family entertainment. CJ produced films and television specials with budgets up to $500,000 and used a cast and crew of up to 250 people.
In 1997, CJ joined Lucent Technologies to gain experience managing a larger business. Within five years, he was responsible for a $408M revenue stream and closed business deals between $100M and $750M each. CJ was inducted every year into the “Achievers Club” for exceeding all fiscal business objectives. During his tenure at Lucent, CJ was identified as a “highly creative visionary” by a Bell Labs inventory.
In 2005, CJ sold technology for Motorola and later Amphenol. His extensive business travels gave him opportunity to speak on interpersonal communications in church, corporate and educational settings. CJ also made guest appearances in the media as a communications specialist. Since fall of 2009, CJ ventured off as a communications consultant, filmmaker, writer and speaker. He currently writes for several blogs and ezines.
CJ planted two churches and is involved in lay leadership within his church in Naperville, IL. He taught classes for the Believer’s Life Institute including Improving Your Future by Clearing Your Past, Raising Media Wise Kids, and Breaking the Cycle of Hurtful Family Relationships. CJ is a leader in the Encouragement Ministry and participates in short term mission projects.
